My work begins with a place. I forage plants from the landscape I am making about and use them to hand-dye silk, so the cloth carries the colour of where it came from. That same landscape then informs the piece itself, through clusters of beadwork and tufted cotton and threadwork that sits closer to fragments of moss or fruiting bodies on the earth’s floor than to anything pictorial. The work is not a picture of a place, but a fragment of one, made with the place itself.

Each piece is small, intended to be held in attention rather than glanced at. They are micro-worlds that invite you to lean in. I work in tones drawn from natural dye baths, allowing colour to pool, shift, and settle into the silk during the dyeing process. Textures gather and break across the surface, so the conditions of the landscape and the movement of the dye remain visible within the cloth.

I work slowly, creating collections over months, each body of work tied to a specific landscape. Every piece is one of one, framed by hand and accompanied by a record of where its colours came from.
